Dens to choose time slots for Pinewood Derby Woodworking.

The below message is from Wes Carr, our Pinewood Chairman.  Dens will be choosing time slots to attend woodworking.  (If you are unable to attend, you can still cut your car by hand if need be so do not stress.  The key to a fast car is attention to the axels and most important get your car as close to the max weight allowed--5 Oz.  Plan on adding 2-3 Oz of weight to get there.  Use of accurate scale recommended.)  Please coordinate with your dens. - Phil

Hello!  We have four time slots to work on the PW derby cars at Cedar Woodworking, who has generously allowed us to use their woodworking equipment.  We would like you, the den leaders, to select which session your den will attend.  Since we have 5 dens, we would like to combine Tigers and Bears, so it would be helpful if Cindy and the Garlands could discuss between yourselves what works best for you.

When you contact your den to let them know what session they are to attend, please take a head count of who plans to attend.  That way if your designated time doesn’t work for a scout, they can perhaps fit into another session if there is room.  They can accommodate 12 scouts maximum at each session.  The Saturday time slots are longer and may be more flexible.

Also please ask the scouts to sketch out the cut that they want on the side of the car.  If a scout is unable to attend any session, they may be able to send their block marked with the desired cut and we can have it cut for them if they want.

Sessions:
Saturday 1/17 8:30AM-10:00AM
Saturday 1/17 10:00AM-11:30AM
Wednesday 1/21 6:00PM-7:00PM
Wednesday 1/21 7:00-8:00PM
Note, Cedar Woodworking is located at 630 West Fulton Street in Lancaster.  You may wish to carpool with your den; however ample off-street parking will be available at a nearby church.  Several adults should be present to help corral the boys and to assist with the equipment, but not all parents are needed.

Thanks!  Wes Carr

Missing a jacket? and other things

Mike Rimer has a lost jacket left at the pack meeting.  Please contact him to claim it, just click his name to send an email.

Big shout out to Cindy Zeyak for a great December pack meeting!  Contact her if you are missing an ornament, she picked up a few at the end of the night.

We will send out by email more info about our 2 charity fund raisers.  We will be working to help defray some of the cost of Father Currier's medical bills that his family is struggling with in addition to raising money toward Pack 184 Jared Boxes which provide fun things for kids with cancer that have to stay at Hershey Med.  I think you can feel proud about both of these causes.
Stay tuned!  Den leaders, please make sure your den is signed up to receive these emails from the blog.
Thanks!

184 Class B T shirts

Our new Class B T Shirts are being made at Premier Screen Printing, in Lititz!  Hopefully we will get them soon.
New scouts that just joined, the Class B uniform is often used on Den or Pack day trips and camp trips.  The shirts are a yellow Tie Dye to allow use to easily spot the scouts and help keep the group together on outings.
For new scouts please consider ordering a class B shirt for this purpose.  Parents may also order, they are nice shirts and again help to define our group when we are out.
For the new scouts, please tell your Den Leader the size and number of shirts and then Den Leaders, please email Phil Billoni when you have your list and he will update the shirt company with the order.

Price:  $12 - Check to "Pack 184"
Sizes: Youth Small, Youth Med, Youth Large, Adult small, Adult Med, Adult Large, Adult XL, Adult XXL
Kids fit fairly true to size, but consider room to grow.  Most popular Kid sizes are YMed and Youth Large.  There is no youth XLarge--those become Adult small.
Rule of Thumb Tiger and Wolf = Medium, Bear and Webelos generally Large
Adults fit slightly small for size(at least they did in the past).  If you are in-between sizes order the larger size.  Ex.  If sometimes you are a large in T shirts and sometimes an XL, go with XL.  If you are ALWAYS a medium, go with medium.

Popcorn time!! Rock on!

Hello Pack 184 Scouts & Families,

It is once again time to sell Trails End popcorn! This year Wolfgang chocolates have joined in on the fun. You son may have received a selling packet in the mail and might have already started selling. If so, that's great! If not, no worries!

Attached you will find my popcorn information paper with lots of information.

Most of the Bears and Webelos I's received selling information and order forms from me last night. The Webelos II's will receive order forms from me at your first den meeting on Wed. 9/17.

If you missed the Bears meeting, Mrs. Zeyak will have your order forms. If you missed the Webelos I meeting, I will have your order forms at our next den meeting at Stoner Park on Mon. 9/15 at 6:30. If you're in any of the dens and you want order forms ASAP, send me an email and I'll put your order form on our front porch for you to pick up.

If you have any questions, please send them my way. I'm currently waiting for a reply for the following excellent questions:
  • What percentage of Wolfgang sales goes back to Cub Scouts?
  • Do the Wolfgang sales count toward the incentives (prizes)?
  • Is 70% of regular popcorn sales tax deductible? (Since 70% of the cost of popcorn goes back to Cub Scouting.)
That's all for now.

Your Popcorn Kernel,
Mrs. Nguyen

Family Camp Trip July 18-20. RSVP July 9

Hello all,

We are excited for the Family Camp weekend for Pack 184 on July 18th-20th.  It should be a great time at a park which has a lot to offer and will be a great opportunity to go camping for those who haven't really done tent camping before.  Learning camping basics in a safe, supportive situation where you can have help and get questions answered as they come up will be a great way to get involved in scouting with your son.  It is also a great way to get to know each other better and work together.
I have a schedule below and links to the park and to good information on getting started in tent camping.

Anticipated FAQ:

-Is there an RSVP?:  Yes, for the purposes of planning, especially for those providing food items for the group, it would helpful to know whether you are planning to attend or not, as soon as you know.  Please call 717-656-4607 or email jhost@juno.com to let us know your plans.  At the latest please let me know by Thursday July 9th.

-How much does it cost?: The cost is $10 per family payable to "Pack 184" to cover the campsite reservation.  This can be sent to me at the following address:
Jon Hostetter
163 Riveredge Dr.
Leola, PA 17540

-Do I have to come the whole time?:  No.  You can come for a day, a night or the whole time or do whatever will work for your family.  Just let someone know when you leave so we aren't looking for you.  It would be helpful to know when you plan to arrive as well.  My cell phone number is (717) 581-0711.

-Is there a discount for leaving early or only coming for a day, etc.:  To keep it simple and help defray the cost of renting the campsites a nominal charge of $10 per family is needed whatever time you are there.  We would need 11 families to cover that cost and we hope to have at least that many come.

-Is there a bathroom with a shower?:  Yes.  One of the beaches and shower facility are a reasonable walk from our campsites.  There is an outhouse next to our campsite.

-What do I need to bring?:  A tent, a pad or mattress, sleeping bag, folding chair, swimsuit, good shoes or hiking boots, a couple changes of clothes, insect repellent, sunscreen, hat, flashlight/headlamp, snacks, food for meals, plates and utensils for everyone in your party, camera (see the list of items in the link below for more details on these things)

Important Pack Meeting Monday March 24th

Just a reminder that the next Pack meeting will be Monday March 24th 7pm-8pm St. Thomas Church.

Please try and attend as several important issues related to summer camp will be discussed.  The deadline for reserving your spot at summer camp is nearly upon us.  Please contact your Den leaders for details, especially the Wolf den as the wolf deadline for cub camp is earlier than the Webelos deadline.

In an attempt to make the summer camp experience more affordable the Pack will conduct a Sub sandwich drive.
The scouts will sell vouchers for a sub at Clyde Weaver's so no assembly or delivery of subs needed.  Each sub sold will contribute money directly into the scouts personal camp account.
Again, please plan to attend the March 24th meeting for the important details and to pick up your sub vouchers.

I should stress that each scout and parent will be responsible for their vouchers if lost or stolen.  So take good care of them.  Return any unsold vouchers, but the best idea is to sell them all.

PS
If any families of boys that crossed over to Boy Scouts receive this, you may unsubscribe from future blog updates by unsubscribing at the bottom of this email.

Den leaders, please make sure your Dens received this and are aware of the important Pack Meeting

Meal Catered by Boy Scout Troop 84:

Theme:  Camping

Each den should provide and contribute the following:
Photos or memorabilia from the prior year to share with the Pack.
An area with tables will be set up for you to display your stuff
Provide a list of events you attended or neat projects that you did as this can help younger dens as they think about what to do the next year.  Let’s share the good ideas.
A camp song to sing and share with the Pack.  All dens will take turns up on the stage.  Doug Welch will have his guitar, so if he knows the song he can play with you.

In addition to the above, the Webelos 1 den and the current Bear Den will each perform a camp skit.  This will be in preparation for the two of them when they both attend Webelos Camp this summer.
PLEASE DETACH BELOW AND SUBMIT IT ALONG WITH PAYMENT TO YOUR DEN LEADER.
