Info for New Scouts!

Welcome to Pack 184!  We typically draw from Neff and Nitrauer Elementary Schools, but other schools are certainly welcome.
We hope you join, we will have a lot of fun together.

Joining scouts can seem overwhelming (to the parents anyway, the kids just have fun)!
I have included links to helpful information for new parents.

Cub Scouts is made up of Dens.  Lions = Kindergarten, Tiger = 1st grade, Wolf = 2nd, Bears 3rd, and Webelos 4th and 5th.

We will need 1 adult Den Leader for each of the Dens, a parent of one of the scouts in that Den.
It is not too hard and our engaged Pack Committee will help you 100% and provide you with a den meeting template which you can tweak or adjust as you see fit.

Please review this Power Point PDF for a review of scouting and our Pack as a whole:

Cub Scout Parent Power Point

So how much does this cost?
It depends!  Most scouts sell popcorn and 25% of all popcorn sales go to the scout themselves.

Scout dues, which include a year subscription to Boys Life magazine(Boys Life Subscription runs March-March), will be $80/yr

**Note Brand New scouts and scouts that transfer packs to 184 will need to pay their dues at the Cub Scout Round up in the fall.    Please be prepared to pay dues when your son joins.

What is next?

Starting in 2015 PA Law requires adult volunteers of youth activities to have a background check.
This takes time, so if you are interested in scouting, please complete the paperwork NOW--allow up to 6 weeks for processing by the state.
You will need a PA Police Report, PA Abuse Clearance, and if you have lived in PA less than 10 years an FBI Fingerprint.
Click the links to complete the clearances.   The Police Report and Abuse Clearance are online and easy.  The fingerprint requires you to show up in person to get your prints and takes longer.
Turn in a copy of your clearances to the Pack.

Sincerely,
Mike Wood, Committee Chair
