Hello Pack 184 families - I hope your summer is going well!

We're still planning a hike and overnight camping next Saturday, July 27-28 at Pine Grove Furnace State Park. We've heard from only a few families who are camping, but know that it is still an option if you'd like. Other families have decided to participate on Saturday and not stay overnight, and that is fine as well. We'll be exploring Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Info and directions can be found at the DNR website here:http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/findapark/pinegrovefurnace/index.htm

Please email me back at cubpack184@gmail.com if you are planning to attend at all.

In terms of schedule, you should plan to arrive at Pine Grove Furnace around 1pm. If anyone would like to caravan, I can plan to leave from St. Thomas by 11am. That being said, the directions on the park website (under Find Us) are very clear. We'll meet at our campsites - Organized Group Sites D and E (see map Below).

We'll begin our hike about 2pm. We're planning to attack the Pole Steeple hike. It is steep, and a bit of a climb, but it is short, so we can take our time going up. At the end is a spectacular view - bring your cameras!

After our hike we can plan to have some free time for families to explore the other activities the park has to offer, or simply to hang out and let the kids play.

Then we'll plan for a fire and some dinner. I'm recommending that each family plan a meal for themselves. Bring whatever dinner you'd like to cook/eat, and perhaps a side dish to share. I'll make a fire if you'd like to roast hot dogs or maybe some pre-cooked sausage over the fire, and I have a small two-burner propane stove. For breakfast, plan for your family some kind of easy grab-n-go meal like cereal or donuts or granola bars or fruit. Something easy. I will be making some coffee in the morning.

I'm planning to leave for home after breakfast in the morning. Families can decide for themselves their own itinerary, and are certainly welcome to spend the day exploring the park if you wish.

This is tent camping at a primitive group camping site, so bring your own tent and camping gear.  There is no power and no showers at the group camp site; however, there are flush toilets and showers within a 1/4 mile walk.  The sites have old school pit toilets.  NO PETS ALLOWED.

Cost:  $2 per each person.  (ex family of 4 = $8)  Checks to "Pack 184"  Given the limited space you are expected to come if you RSVP and will be expected to pay the small fee above.
Please email me back at cubpack184@gmail.com if you are planning to attend.

Looking forward to it - thanks!  If you decide to camp at the last minute that is fine we have a nice big campsite.
