184 Committee Meeting Sunday 4pm

Reminder next 184 committee meeting is this Sunday at 4pm at the Billoni's
Address:
2035 Wynfield Dr, 17601  phone 9405447
Any interested parent is welcome to attend.  We welcome all ideas and input--we all have something to add to our boys scouting experience.  Come for all or part of the meeting.

The more people that participate in the planning committee, the less work any one individual has to do.  Help us with a small lift and together we can move mountains!

Agenda:

  1. Final decision on date and location of the Pinewood Derby - Wes Carr will discuss options
  2. Planning for Scouting for Food Nov 14th and 21st
  3. Review plan for Nov Pack meeting - Webelos 1 will lead
  4. ideas for winter community service project - welcome all ideas
  5. Timing of Pinewood Derby car distribution.  Timing of build clinic.
  6. Ideas for Blue and Gold entertainment - time to try and book the event
  7. Need parents to fill planned vacancies in the Pack Committee and leadership next year as boys cross over to Boy Scouts.
    1. Holes need to be filled so pack can recharter in Feb.  If pack cannot recharter the Pack will have to close, so the vacant positions need to be filled and paperwork completed preferably by the December pack meeting.
    2. Recommend a parent for a position
    3. Any unfilled positions will be filled by picking names out of hat at Dec Meeting.  Unfilled positions are not an option at that point.
    4. We will review the planned vacancies.  Off the top of my head:  Committee Chair (the planner), Pack Treasurer (do not need finance experience -- we are not talking large sums of money--don't be afraid!), 2 committee members, Popcorn leader, Assistant Cubmaster(you get to work with Mike, how cool is that!)
  8. Recharter paperwork should be coming out soon.  Mike will probably get it at the next round table.
  9. Review of leadership training completion - Phil will pull up the leaders on my.scouting and review any missing training.
  10. Reminder all leaders will need their PA clearances for rechartering.
  11. Webelos need to start to get names of boys that want to participate in Klondike this Jan.  Mike can review how we book a cabin on Tentaroo (I think that's the name) website.  We will reserve a cabin at this meeting.

Thanks, see you there!

Friends of Scouting, goal raise $10 per scout

Reminder each scouts received 1 or 2 "Friends of Scouting" pledge forms at the last Pack meeting.
Our goal as a Pack is for each scout to raise at least $10 and turn it in to the Pack this Month (May).
It should be very easy to do, think of older couples in your neighborhood or aunts and uncles.

Please turn in your pledges this month to your Den Leader.  Alternately, Dr. Billoni will be at the Nitrauer Fun Fest on May 15th and you can turn it in at that time as well.

We can do it!
Thanks!

Scouter Sunday 1 week away!

Hey Pack 184, Scouter Sunday is only about 1 week away.  April 26th at St. Thomas.
Please contact your den leaders at let them know who can attend.  We want to represent 184 in a positive way, so please try to attend.
The scouts will act as greeters, ushers, and we will also have a color guard for flag ceremony.
During the service we will present the card and money we raised to Father Currier's family on behalf of Pack 184.
Following the service they will have a lunch for us and then we can help with their spring clean up, then need a head count so that they have enough food.

Arrive at St. Thomas at 9:30 to get your job assignment.
Dress in Class A uniform
Service begins at 10am - 11am.

If you cannot attend the Scouter Sunday, please try and attend the clean up around Noon.

Bring a change of clothes for after the service, for working outside.

This is a great way to show the parish of St. Thomas how great 184 is and how much we appreciate their support as the charter organization.  Without them, the pack would not exist.

Thanks!

Pinewood Derby Rule reminder

Just a reminder.  One of the Pinewood Derby rules is that all 4 wheels need to touch the track.  It is not allowed to intentionally set your wheels up so that only 3 of the 4 wheels are touching.
Some Pinewood Derby websites recommend trying to do this, but it is not in fair play as there is 25% less friction.  Now the placement of the axels and wheels is not perfect but if the inspector notices a wheel is consistently not touching the ground you will be asked to fix it prior to the race.
Please do your best, we do not want unhappy scouts with a disqualified car.
Thanks!

Due to the cancelled January Pack Meeting, we will be meeting as a Pack the end of the month on Monday 2/23 at St. Stephens.
Bring your pinewood derby car for pre-inspection and weigh in, to make sure your car passes the evaluation and will be able to compete the following Saturday.
Plan:
630*-7pm Pinewood Derby inspection and weight check.  *note the time
7pm - Turn in Blue and Gold reservation forms and payment.  Assemble Jared Boxes as a service project for Children admitted to Hershey Med for cancer related diagnoses.
Wolf Den opening Ceremony

1.  Information and options for Cub Summer Camp, timeframe for sign up
2.  Need for Adult to Volunteer as CubMaster as Doug will be leaving after Blue and Gold.  The Pack committee does the planning for all the Pack meetings and Pack events, so that does not all fall on the CubMaster.  We need the CubMaster to lead the Pack meeting, interact with the Scouts, and be the face of the Pack.  Someone needs to do it, why not YOU?
3.  Update on Pinewood Derby plans for 2/28.
4.  Sub Sale info, opportunity to raise money for scout camp.

1/24/15

Pack Meeting Monday 1/26

Reminder Pack meeting this Monday.
The Wolf Den will be leading the meeting.  Go Wolves!!
Following advancement we will assemble "Jared Boxes" which are gift boxes that we will send to children admitted at Hershey Medical Center Cancer Center.
Your Den leader should have contacted you about bringing something to contribute to the Jared Boxes, if you have not heard please contact your Den leader to find out how you can help.
We also will review two fund raising opportunities.  These will help the pack keep dues low for next year as well as help us contribute to other community service projects this spring.
The first is the "Salt and Pepper fund raiser night"  Click here for more details.

The second will be a sub sale through Clyde Weaver.  We will sell sub tickets which can be redeemed at anytime at a Clyde Weaver for a fresh made sub.  We will have a 2 week window to sell the tickets.

For each $6 ticket sold the scout will have $2.00 added to their scout account to be used for dues or camp and the Pack will receive 50 cents which we will use for community service projects or other Pack expenses.

All unsold tickets must be returned to the Pack at the end of the 2 weeks.
At this Monday's Pack meeting we will have  a sign up station where you can tell us your sales goal (how many tickets you plan to sell) which will help us determine how many tickets to have made by Clyde Weaver for us.

So look for the Sub Sale sign up and think about how many tickets you plan to sell.

Thanks for your support!
